CLINICAL SERVICES OFFERED BY MTF:
Every child and youth placed with MTF is welcomed into a comfortable family-based home with the goal of creating an environment that feels safe, secure and nurturing. Due to their family history, many of the children placed in our care will require additional supports in addition to the care of their foster parent. As such, MTF offers a number of clinical services to support and maintain the needs of the children in our care. Clinical services are delivered in the following manner:
-
Using a trauma informed lens, MTF collaborates with the care team to develop individualized plans for each child/youth that will meet the unique needs. These needs include but are not limited to their emotional, physical, mental and psychological needs.
-
MTF uses a multi-disciplinary team format that includes: counsellors, therapists and health care professionals to offer a wide range of services. These services include: counseling services, speech and language assessment/therapy; regular health check-ups through local family physicians, pediatricians, and walk-in clinics; and psychiatric support as deemed necessary. These services are community based and MTF will seek out and use community supports as needed.
-
A trauma assessment is an extremely useful tool that can be used to direct the type of care and counselling a child/youth might benefit from. MTF is able to facilitate the use of trauma assessments by engaging the services of private care assessors and will also facilitate trauma-based treatment using the services of private care providers in the community who have agreed to partner with MTF. Trauma assessments and treatment can be accessed with minimal waiting time. MTF partners with highly skilled trauma counsellors who are experts in the field of trauma.
-
MTF partners with local schools to ensure that every child and youth has access to quality education. We attend regular quarterly meetings with the school to ensure that the needs of the children and youth are met regarding their education. We will work with educational liaison personnel in order to ensure the best course of action in providing quality education for every child/youth placed in an MTF home.
-
MTF provides behavioral support and life-skills support as needed within our foster homes through use of Child and Youth Workers, Social Service Workers, and Personal Support Workers that are employed through third party agencies.
-
Using community resources, we are able to facilitate recreational activities for all children in our care, culturally based services and activities, attendance at local camps, and pet therapy.
